Coburn and Melissa
Ever since the first time I got off the plane in Nicaragua I knew that God was going to make this country a huge part of my life. It wasn’t until I met Melissa that I realized how much God had in store for me. Melissa grew up in Nicaragua and began serving in ministry at an early age. She spent time living in L’abri Switzerland and later directed a Christian School and started a girls rescue home in Nicaragua.
I studied Dramatic Art and History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and am working on a Masters of Religion in Missions and Leadership at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. After serving in the Peace Corp in Nicaragua, God called me to start a ministry that has become a full time blessing.
Melissa and I fell in love in a trash dump community chasing God with all of our hearts. Our hope is to be a friend on the journey for other young people who desire a deep and life-transforming relationship with Jesus. Nicaragua has blessed us with so much. Our values as a family are to love God, serve each other, live a simple life, and raise a Godly generation. We believe that nothing is more satisfying than to fellowship with God in the context of intimate human relationships. Together we get to go on so many great adventures, and we always find ourselves wanting to recreate those adventures for others so that they can come to realize God’s faithfulness in the way that He reveals it to us.
Melissa and I have a heart for adoption and love all of the children God has placed in our lives. Our home life looks a little crazy at times with Melissa’s love for cooking creative, healthy dishes, and my high energy level. We have a lot of fun living life and it seems like just about every day there is another new and exciting adventure! We love the beach, the mountains, and everything in between. Pretty much wherever God is moving we would love to be there, but in the meantime we are pumped to serve the Lord in Nicaragua and Beyond.
Thanks for reading all of this and I look forward to meeting you soon ‘Si Dios Quiere’ If God permits.
Jonathan and Corrie
Jonathan and I were both teenagers (unknown to one another and 1000s of miles apart) when God completely changed our lives after encountering Him. We had been looking for unconditional love, acceptance, and a sense of purpose in our lives. When we met Jesus, we got all of those things and much more. Each of us told God, “You can have all of me, all of my life.” And God’s response to us was “You’re mine.”
Jonathan’s dad was in the Army, and they lived all over the U.S. and Europe while he was growing up. I, Corrie, was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. We met at Wheaton College where Jonathan was earning his Masters, and I was finishing my Bachelors degree. We worked together while in program and became close friends. Later, while pursuing God in the Middle East, we fell in love with each other. We were married in 2004. We’ve been serving Jesus together since then! We have 2 sons, Guy and Simeon, and a daughter, Lucy.
We spent several years living and serving in the Middle East where we learned to speak Arabic and to love the people and land that became our home. We’ve always had a love for travel, new places and different people. We love the variety of God’s creation, and we long for people all over the world to experience the love and power of Jesus.
Our passion is to disciple a generation that loves God and others, and to see His people living out lives that mirror their Savior. We believe that discipleship is about sharing our lives closely with others, seeking God together, and pouring into people what God has given us. We are excited about being a part of the lives of each person God brings to Discipleship Beyond, and we can’t wait to see what He has in store for them! Come join us!
I was born on the border and have been crossing them ever since. I began my life in El Paso, Texas in a family that was from Mexico so I started appreciating languages and cultures at an early age. I began my personal relationship with Christ when I was fourteen, and the Lord very quickly brought mentors into my life to disciple me. Through those relationships, I have grown exponentially in knowledge and love for my Savior.
God first spoke to me about His calling of full-time ministry in high school while on a trip to Guatemala, and that began my travel overseas. He ignited my passion to proclaim Him among the unreached and difficult. He has taken me to over twenty countries in five continents. It has been a blessing to travel the world and experience different cultures and tongues worshipping the One True Living God.
I’m excited about the future! I love watching people grow in Jesus and to see them dedicate their lives to Him. The possibilities are endless!
DEPAK AND CHRISLEY
Though we were born on farms only minutes apart, we met each other years later on a blind date. After marriage, we moved to the city to pursue the American dream. But over the next couple of years, the Lord stirred our hearts and turned us towards him. We were blessed to live near family who spent a lot of time with us, patiently guiding us to be disciples who followed the Lord in all things. After two years, we followed God to Atlanta and joined an intense internship working with refugees from around the world. The Lord woke us up during this time and gave us more of His heart for nations to experience His love! While seeking further training, we spent more time seeking the Lord and reaching out to refugees. And it was then that we began to sense God directing us overseas. After a lengthy vision trip, God gave us a beautiful daughter! We continue to have a growing passion to reach out to unreached and overlooked people, and we are walking out the Lord’s plan for our lives. We have a passion for discipleship and helping others experience the Lord with new depth! We desire to obey our Lord in all things!
